So, I'm thinking about starting a small garden this year. We live in the country in MN south of Minneapolis. I've never had a garden before, so I have no idea how to start one. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to plant tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots, asparagus, cucumbers, brussel sprouts, snap peas, and maybe some herbs, like dill, parsley, and chives. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

faith THE FIRST THING....START A COMPOST PILE....AND IN SPRING LAY OUT THE AREA, PULL THE WEEDS, REMOVE THE ROCKS, THEN RENT YOURSELF A TILLER,,,,,AND BLEND THE COMPOST PILE THOROUGHLY WITH THE TURNED SOIL. WATER IT, THEN WAIT A DAY AND TILL IT AGAIN....THEN USE THE HARROW EDGE OF THE TILLER AND MAKE OPEN ROWS....BEFORE YOU PLANT....CHECK ONLINE FOR YOUR AREA...BUGS AND SUCH AND FIND OUT WHAT YOU CAN NOT PLANT TOGETHER....AND WHAT YOU NEED TO PLANT AMONG THE VEGGIES TO PROTECT THEM FROM BUGS....AND THEN PLANT AWAY....THE TALL VEGGIES GO IN THE CENTER...AND THEN BRANCH OUT....I USUALLY PLANT THE TOMATOES, ON THE OUTER EDGE CORNERS OF MY GARDEN....AND YOU WILL NEED TO BUILD A SUPPORT TREES FOR THE TOMATOES TO CLIMB UPON.....SO THAT THE TOMATOES DO NOT GROW ON THE GROUND....THEY DO NOT RIPEN IF THEY ARE ON THE GROUND.. GET A GOOD THICK PAIR OF GARDENING GLOVES, A KNEE PAD....AND A HOE, A RAKE, A THREE PRONG TROWEL AND THEN KEEP IT WATERED AND WEEDED....AND THEN PREPARE TO HARVEST TWO FREEZERS FULL OF FOOD!!! :)88 days ago -

Replied to the Where has everyone lived ??Born in S.E. Texas,,,, never lived in any other state...but visited a few briefly like Kansas,Oklahoma, Mississippi and of course Lousianna. My oldest daughter lives in Ms. Wouldn't trade Texas for any other place...it's my home ; at least while I am here on Earth...

Texas,,,, it's the summers you have to worry about,,, the brutal heat,,and Hurricane season, we are not very far from the Gulf Coast ,, thats when you have to really keep and eye on the skies.... and this past summer another thing to keep an eye on was the mosquitoes,, with the West Nile Virus lurking out there,, time is limited to outdoor activities,,,

Hahaha, My "vacation" was FINALLY getting to go out alone on a date with my husband this year on our anniversary... first time in 9 years. LoL But it was such a joy and I am very grateful that God moved in that for us. You see, we have 5 children and finding someone who is willing to watch that many is nearly impossible. A very sweet cousin and friend of mine told me that if my husband and I ever needed to get away, she would look after the children. This was a HUGE gesture for her because she also has a large family, 4 children. I had thanked her but I wasn't really going to do that to her. :) Then when our anniversary came around I remembered her kindness and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Her and her family came over to the house and sent us on our way. We didn't do much, just went to a nice restaurant, but it was a blessing and we enjoyed the quiet. hahaha
I'm very blessed to be here. I had surgery last summer and almost died twice. Obviously it wasn't my time to go. God has been with me every step getting better daily, finding out what he has for me to do. I'm very blessed to have my husband who has been a very big support through it all. Thank you Jesus.
